One Week Without The King of Pop

 It's been a week since The King of Pop peaced outta here to moonwalk on the big dance floor in the sky. Seven days that have, to the surprise of nobody, been filled with all kinds of salacious stories surrounding his strange death and even more bizarre life. What is surprising though, is how bummed about MJ's death I genuinely am. And as Michael himself would say to me "you are not alone." I've received several emails from friends who are feeling the same way. We're in an MJ funk.

I haven't thought about Michael Jackson in what feels like forever and admittedly when I have thought of Jacko, it's not been in a positive way. I've said it before, My Michael died around 1991/1992, after the release of Dangerous and before the first round of child molestation allegations. Sure it had been a long time since he was a pretty young thing, his face was already the stuff of nightmares and we had already seen our share of behaviour that could be described as eccentric at best and totally off the wall batshit crazy at worst but I held on, my love of MJ allowing me to overlook all the insanity until it became just too much and I handed in my sparkly glove, relegated my official MJ Mafia t-shirt to 'gym shirt status' and moved on with my life.

Now, more than 15 years later, MJ is dead and like most things in life, the grieving process is not black and white nor is it as easy as ABC or 1,2,3. Several friends and I have been finding comfort in drowning ourselves in everything Michael, watching his videos, old interviews, classic performances and pop culture milestones. When you don't know what to say, say say, sometimes it's just easier to remember the time it seemed like MJ was invincible. It's only human nature, I suppose. I can't keep my grief in the closet.

Michael, I can't explain the way you make me feel, you were a dancing machine, you were dangerous, some might even say a smooth criminal but you made me scream, you rock my world and now you are gone too soon and I'll never get to rock with you. But perhaps it took your death, your blood on the dance floor to make me realize I just can't stop loving you.

If you're like me and you want to drown your sorrows by drowning yourself in MJ, Entertainment Weekly has put together a Michael Jackson tribute issue out tomorrow.

I'll be picking this up tomorrow, the same day I'll be sitting down to watch the VHS copy of The Making Of Thriller that I tore apart my apartment to find.

If you want to strap yourself into the DeLorean with me and Doc and relive some of MJ's magical moments, here are some below. Great Scott! He was amazing;

Motown 25th Anniversary featuring the debut of the Moon Walk:

Pepsi commercial (the one in which he was injured during filming);

Another Pepsi commercial featuring MJ (and a young, adorable Alfonso Ribeiro);

Thriller. Full-length version;

We Are The World (take a Lactaid, it's gonna get cheesy!);

The Way You Make Me Feel & Man in the Mirror from the 1988 Grammys;

1993 Super Bowl half time show, parts 1 & 2;

MJ's final rehearsal, taken two days before his death;

Michael Jackson. This is Shit

LONDON (AP) — Michael Jackson has announced a series of London concerts in July.
Thursday's announcement was greeted by thousands of people at London's O2 arena, where the concerts will be staged. Jackson didn't specify how many shows he'll play, though posters have shown he's booked for 10 dates.

The only way I'd pay to see this mess would be if the ticket price included a ride in a DeLorean during which Doc would kick up that motherfucking flux capacitor to 88 and take my ass back to well, '88.

And I say this as a Michael Jackson fan. I was wacko for Jacko when I was a kid. His posters lined my walls, I had a Michael Jackson microphone into which I would warble my favourite MJ songs and yes, I had a sparkly silver glove as well. I remember getting into a passionate argument with one of my little friends about who loved Michael more. Salty drops fell out of my eyes when he was burned shooting the Pepsi commercial. I have the hour-long Making of Thriller on VHS. As an adult (and I use that term loosely) some friends and I formed an unofficial Michael Jackson appreciation society, the MJ Mafia. We had chapters in Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta. A failed attempt to spread into Saskatchewan resulted in an interesting incident in a hotel room bathroom involving an RCMP officer, an officer who would later refer to us as 'lunatics.' But that's a whole other story. The point is, my love of Michael runs deep.

So it's from a place of love that I say, Michael Jackson, the inventor of the moonwalk, the music video pioneer, the amazing entertainer, is dead. My Michael Jackson Beat It outta here in 1991, after the release of Dangerous and before the first round of chid molestation allegations surfaced. In his place is this plastic surgery-addicted, creepy, out-of-touch-with-reality caucasian manwoman child-touching freakshow. Seeing Michael Jackson in concert now would just be a sad and painful reminder of how far he has fallen. I wouldn't see these upcoming shows if someone offered me a free ticket. No thank you. I do not wanna be startin' something with this impostor. Instead I'll stay at home, put on my MJ Mafia t-shirt and listen to either Off The Wall or Thriller and pour out some of my 40 on the sidewalk in honour of my dearly departed Jacko. And that sidewalk my friends, would light up Billy Jean-style.

This is one of the posters I had on my wall...le sigh.....

Ed McDad is in the Hospital

It has not been good times as of late for the former Tonight Show sidekick and my dad's celebrity lookalike, Ed McMahon. First he nearly lost his home and his wife racked his credit card up to high heaven. Now it looks like he might be joining his wife's maxed out credit card. EMac is in the hospital battling not only bone cancer but also a very serious bout of pneumonia. Apparently it's not looking good. Sad times for my dad lookalike, for sure.

I only hope that if Ed does peace out, that Johnny Carson returns the favour of years of devoted sidekickship and greets him at the pearly gates by saying "Heeeere's Ed!" and then someone pops out from behind a cloud with a comically oversized cheque.

And Kyla, who is trying to set up an interview with Ed for a TV show we're working on? I think it's safe to assume the answer will be negatory.

*For Krista and Susan who swear that my dad looks like Ed McMahon

Paris Hilton Killed Mickey's Dog

Grab your 40 and pour some of that shit on the sidewalk for little Loki today. Mickey Rourke's beloved pooch is now humping legs in the big dog kennel in the sky. Bitch is dead. Loki peaced outta here on Monday at the ripe old age of 18. THIS IS SOME MARLEY AND ME SHIT!!!

Who is Mickey going to take to the Oscars now????

Hmm....MickRo is partying with Paris Hilton on the weekend and on Monday, the love of his life is dead. The cause of death probably wasn't old age, I think canine herpes claimed Loki. Somebody get Detectives Benson and Stabler from Law & Order: SVU on the case!!!

See? This is what happens when you fraternize with Paris Hilton. I'd say I told ya so to my former best friend but Mickey is down and out in Beverly Hills right now and I can't rub his busted face in it, it would be 'UnSouthern' of me. Mickey needs time to mourn. Maybe this tragedy is what was needed to bring us back together? Maybe we will settle in Miami after all? So many unanswered questions right now. In the meantime, a moment of silence for lil Loki....
